Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in implementing replay technology.
Video review technology will be launched at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Players are granted the right to challenge particular decisions from the chair umpire, following the practice currently in place at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
This technology will be operational on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This move follows just a year after the AELTC rolled out ELC, which effectively ended the centuries-old role of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Players cannot to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to review other decisions, including:
- Whether a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- If a ball made contact with an rival's racket or body during play.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a point.
Notably, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of challenges a player can initiate.
Case in Point
A recent incident took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and determined the player was guilty of hindrance, granting the point to his opponent.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews are not exclusive to major tournaments. It has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system implemented at all of its events.
Additional Innovations
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This addresses instances where the crowd have occasionally been uncertain if a shot was in or out.
In other news, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have also announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
